Pippa Sherriff 2nd in South Island

On Monday/Tuesday November 21st/22nd, TennisPlus+ student Pippa Sherriff (pictured left) participated in the South Island Primary/Intermediate Schools Competition in the year 6 and under category against Ruby Young from Canterbury.

There were only 8 girls in the draw as this competition was the end of a qualifying process meaning the top 8 girls in the South Island participated. Pippa’s first match (quarter-final) was against Lily Parkinson which Pippa won convincingly 4/0, 4/0. Pippa’s semi-final match was against Lucy Crawford from South Canterbury which she won again 4/0, 4/0.

In the final Pippa ran into 2nd seed Ruby Young from Canterbury but was unable to continue her run losing 1/4, 3/5. This was an epic battle in very hot conditions in Timaru. This match took 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete.

Well done Pippa on your efforts not only in that match, but during the entire qualifying process too.

Once again, you made me a very proud coach!
